AE Youth Apprentice

As an Angler Education Youth (aged 14-17) Apprentice, you will combine expertise with enthusiasm to introduce novices to angling and sportfishing. Complete additional trainings and opportunities to advance to Certified Angler Education Youth Instructor.

Restrictions

Driving a state-owned vehicle Driving a private vehicle as part of your volunteer service, to transport people, pets or supplies, to travel between volunteer locations or for overnight travel. , Use, carry or transport of firearms and ammunition , Activities/duties are limited to only those duties assigned by your ODFW supervisor and those listed on this Volunteer Service Description.

Desired Skills & Knowledge

  • • Proper catch-and-release, landing, and harvesting methods
  • • Knowledge of basic aquatic ecology and fish habitats
  • • Oregon fishing regulations, license requirements and available resources
  • • Basic angling skills, including use and care of gear, use and care of tools, and water safety awareness

Physical Demands

  • • Walking, sitting, standing, squatting, climbing, kneeling, and/or stooping motions for long periods of time
  • • Working with materials, gear, and heavy equipment (to include lifting, bending, pushing, and/or pulling)
  • • Walking on uneven, wet, muddy, and/or frozen ground
  • • Wading in still or swift water
