Registration for: Junior Instructor (Hunter Safety Education)

Hunter Safety Education instructors serve a vital role, as they are equipped with essential knowledge, skills, and ethics to promote safe and responsible hunting. As a Hunter Education Junior Instructor, your responsibilities will include conducting engaging classes, providing hands-on demonstrations, and completing practical exercises to reinforce learning. You will also help grade student exams to ensure they meet safety standards.

Your dedication to teaching Hunter Safety Education contributes significantly to fostering a culture of safety, ethics, and stewardship among hunters. This not only preserves Oregon's natural heritage, but also promotes sustainable hunting traditions for future generations. 

Once you turn 18, you will become eligible for the Hunter Safety Education Event Support Specialist role.

Once you turn 21, you will become eligible for the following roles:

  • Hunter Safety Education Instructor - Apprentice
  • Hunter Safety Education Instructor - Certified

Restrictions

Driving a state-owned vehicle Driving a private vehicle as part of your volunteer service, to transport people, pets or supplies, to travel between volunteer locations or for overnight travel. , Activities/duties are limited to only those duties assigned by your ODFW supervisor and those listed on this Volunteer Service Description.

Desired Skills & Knowledge

Physical Demands

  • • Working with materials, gear, and heavy equipment (to include lifting, bending, pushing, and/or pulling)
  • • Walking, sitting, standing, squatting, climbing, kneeling, and/or stooping motions for long periods of time
  • • Working in indoor and outdoor settings
  • • Walking on uneven, wet, muddy, and/or frozen ground
