Registration for: Youth Standard Volunteer (Salmon & Trout Enhancement Program)

1. Fish Monitoring and Data Collection: Monitor salmon and trout populations by collecting data on catch rates, sizes, and species composition. This data helps researchers and conservationists assess the health of the population and make informed management decisions.
2. Research Support: Assist researchers with fieldwork, data analysis, and other tasks related to studying salmon trout populations and their habitats. This may include fish surveys and water quality monitoring.
3. Habitat Restoration: Participate in habitat restoration projects aimed at improving spawning and rearing habitats for salmon and trout. This could involve activities such as streambank stabilization, removing barriers to fish passage, stream cleanup, and planting native vegetation along riverbanks.
4. Hatchery Support: Assist with fish feeding, tank maintenance, fish health monitoring, egg collection and stocking operations.

- • Basic fishing equipment such as rods, reels, tackle, lures, baits, waders, nets, and trauma packs

Restrictions
Driving a state-owned vehicle Driving a private vehicle as part of your volunteer service, to transport people, pets or supplies, to travel between volunteer locations or for overnight travel. , Use, carry or transport of firearms and ammunition , Activities/duties are limited to only those duties assigned by your ODFW supervisor and those listed on this Volunteer Service Description.
Desired Skills & Knowledge
- • Basic angling skills, including use and care of gear, use and care of tools, and water safety awareness
- • Knowledge of basic aquatic ecology and fish habitats
- • Proper catch-and-release, landing, and harvesting methods
- • Oregon fishing regulations, license requirements and available resources
Physical Demands
- • Walking on uneven, wet, muddy, and/or frozen ground
- • Walking, sitting, standing, squatting, climbing, kneeling, and/or stooping motions for long periods of time
- • Operating in wet or icy conditions
- • Operating in either cold or hot weather
- • Working with materials and gear (to include lifting, bending, pushing, and/or pulling)
