Rifle Skills: Precision Hunter Course for Adults

This is a one-day, hands-on training event designed for hunters who want to responsibly extend their effective shooting distance when conditions and skill allow. The course emphasizes ethical shot placement, real-world field positions, and practical application on mid- to long-range targets. Participants will learn how to identify their personal maximum effective range, read wind in natural terrain, and make confident, ethical shooting decisions in realistic hunting scenarios.

Throughout the day, students will develop practical field marksmanship skills, including shooting from prone, seated, and improvised positions. Instruction will also cover how to gather and apply ballistic data out to 700 yards, interpret environmental wind indicators such as mirage, terrain, and vegetation, and evaluate when a shot should—and should not—be taken.

By the end of the event, participants will leave with a clearer understanding of their personal limitations as a shooter and hunter, along with the tools needed to practice and improve further.

Participants will receive individualized performance feedback, recommended areas for continued training, and a personalized rifle data card for use in the field. This is a skills-based learning experience and is not pass/fail.

This event is intended for dedicated rifle hunters seeking to build confidence beyond 200 yards, graduates of the ODFW Basic Rifle Skills Class looking for the next step, and shooters interested in precision-focused field marksmanship with modern equipment. It is not designed for first-time shooters, tactical or combat-focused training, or speed/competition shooting.
