Rifle Skills: Precision Hunter Course (Adults)
This is a one-day training course designed for hunters who want to shoot farther when conditions and skill allow. This course emphasizes ethical shot execution and practical field positions with mid-to-long range targets. Students will learn how to identify their personal maximum effective range, read wind in natural terrain and make sound decisions in realistic conditions.
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Build accurate data to 700 yards
- Shoot effectively from prone, seated, and improvised field positions
- Read wind using natural indicators (mirage, terrain, vegetation)
- Make conservative, ethical shot decisions at extended range
- Define a personal maximum effective hunting distance
This course is skills-based, not pass/fail. Each student receives:
- Individual performance feedback and recommended training focus areas
- Guidance for continued practice and next steps
- Data card for student’s personal rifle.
What To Bring
Equipment
- Hunting rifle capable of ~1 MOA**
- Scope with exposed turrets*
- Bipod or pack-based front support*
- Hunting Backpack
- Rear support (Shooting Bag) *
- Rangefinder*
- 60-100 rounds of hunting or hunting-equivalent ammunition*
- Eye and ear protection*
- Ballistic app or data card
- Kestrel weather meter (optional)
- Shooting mat (optional)*
- Tripod (optional)*
*These items can be provided by ODFW but may be shared for the class. It is highly recommended that students use their own equipment for best experience.
**A combination of ODFW firearms and personal firearms is allowed. Personal firearms require personal ammunition. ODFW cannot provide ammunition for personal firearms.

- First time shooters
- Tactical or combat-focused training
- Speed shooting or competition-specific training
