Youth Turkey Hunting Clinic (Southern OR)
This clinic introduces youth ages 8–17 to spring turkey hunting in a supportive, hands-on learning environment designed for both new and developing hunters. Participants will learn safe, ethical, and effective turkey hunting techniques, while gaining practical skills they can build on in future seasons.
Instruction is organized around core turkey hunting skills, including:
- Turkey calling, vocabulary, and calling techniques using a variety of calls
- Turkey identification, behavior, scouting methods, and sign recognition
- Spring turkey hunting tips, tactics, and strategies
- Turkey hunting equipment and available resources, including how to find places to hunt
- Shotgun shooting fundamentals, patterning for turkey hunting, and effective range practice
Firearm safety is emphasized throughout the event. Youth will have the opportunity to practice shooting in a controlled range environment with one-on-one coaching.
The goal will be to provide the skills, knowledge, and gear for our young hunters to take on the sport. All attendees will also have a chance to win an opportunity to go turkey hunting with a more experienced hunter from OHA or ODFW. No birds are promised, but we hope to give these kids a little more personal attention to refine some of the techniques discussed in the class.
