Hunter Safety Education Conventional Course Registration
Equip yourself as a responsible and competent hunter with this thorough introduction to firearm safety, ethics, and responsibility. You will earn your Hunter Safety Education Certification in a comprehensive, instructor-led course that combines classroom learning with practical field day sessions. Upon completion, a temporary orange hunter safety card will be issued and hard card certifications will be mailed within 60 days. To receive certification, students must attend all classes and demonstrate proficiency in skill, attitude, and knowledge across all course components. Please note that no online portion of Hunter Safety training is required to attend this course.
This course spans a minimum of 12 hours, with the option to include 2 hours of live fire training within the 12-hour requirement. Please note that classes may extend beyond 12 hours, but should not exceed 20 hours without approval from the State Coordinator. Our structured schedule allows for flexibility, typically spanning over 2-3 weeks with students meeting twice a week.
Throughout the course, you will cover essential topics such as:
- Understanding the 5 different firearm actions
- Proper loading and unloading techniques, including ammunition selection
- Practicing safe muzzle control and keeping fingers off the trigger
- Managing the safety mechanism on firearms throughout the session
- Adhering to the 4 main safety rules: MTAT (Muzzle Control, Trigger, Action, Target)
